Why a modern aluminum window is different.
Not every aluminum window is built for the same job. A high-performance system combines a thermally broken frame, insulated glass, precise hardware and a finish selected for the building. This guide helps you compare the right decisions before requesting a quote.
1. Start with the opening — not the product name.
Measure the rough opening, note the wall build-up and decide what the room needs: fixed panorama glass, ventilation, egress, a tilt-and-turn sash or a door connection. Large openings often work best as a combination of fixed and operable elements in one frame.
2. Specify thermal performance as a system.
Frame depth, thermal break, spacer, glass build-up and installation all affect the finished window. Insulated glass should be selected for climate, solar exposure, sound control and safety — not only for the number of panes.
3. Choose the opening type around daily use.
- Fixed glazing: maximum glass area and the cleanest sightlines.
- Tilt-and-turn: secure ventilation plus full inward opening for cleaning.
- Lift-and-slide: large, low-threshold openings and panoramic views.
- Bifold: panels fold aside to open a wider portion of the wall.
4. Make finish and security part of the brief.
Aluminum offers durable powder-coated RAL finishes, including separate interior and exterior colors. Pair the desired appearance with the required hardware and glazing: a security class is a complete tested system, not a handle or lock alone. See colors and finishes and security guidance.
5. Prepare a quote-ready window schedule.
- List each opening with width, height and quantity.
- Mark fixed, tilt-and-turn, sliding or door operation.
- State your location, glass priorities and desired finish.
- Add drawings, elevation plans or photos where available.
