What “thermally broken” means.
Aluminum is strong, durable and naturally conductive. A thermal break inserts a low-conductivity insulating barrier between the exterior and interior aluminum sections, interrupting the direct path for heat and cold. In modern window systems, this barrier works together with insulated glass, gaskets and correctly designed drainage.
The full window matters.
A thermal break is essential, but it is not a standalone performance number. The final U-factor depends on the frame geometry, insulating zones, spacer, glass build-up, edge conditions, opening type and installation. Compare whole-window values for the intended size wherever possible.
